About Us

Welcome to the Thoroughbred Adoption Network!

A quick intro…

We could cite the grisly statistics on racehorses going to slaughter, but chances are you already know.

We have volunteered and done work for multiple equine rescue organizations. There is a common thread with all of them – their founders and management simply cannot accept the fate that these animals face. They never stop working on behalf of these magnificent horses.

Speaking of magnificent, we don’t just mean appearance. An OTTB can do anything. We’ve seen OTTB trail horses in mountainous Vermont, OTTB cowboy horses in Oklahoma, a striking chestnut broke to drive in Florida. With the right training, the possibilities are endless.

So if you are thinking about a horse, why not consider an ex-racehorse? Reach out to the rescue organizations and ask questions, they’ll be happy to speak with you. Soon, we’ll be putting together a library of resources so you can learn more about care and re-training specific to retired Thoroughbreds.

Thinking about getting a horse?

Adopt a horse from one of the fine equine rescue organizations that list horses on this site. They’ll match you with the perfect horse, whether you are new to riding or a seasoned horse-person. If you’ve got questions, please contact either the organization listing the horse, or use the contact from on this website. We’ll respond as soon as we possibly can.

Our Goals

  • Provide a single point of contact for anyone considering adopting a Thoroughbred ex-racehorse.
  • Provide an easy way for rescues and horse owners to reach adoptive homes

Our Mission

Our mission is to help connect ex-racehorses with new homes.

How it Works

Any 501(c)3 rescue organization can advertise an adoptable trail or companion horse at no cost. Performance horses may be advertised for $15/2 months. (we’ll waive this fee for non-profits until summer 2017)

We also welcome anyone who owns a Thoroughbred ex-racehorse and is unable to find a rescue organization to take your horse. You may advertise for a small fee.

Fees we collect will go toward maintaining the website, search engine optimization and advertising.

The Thoroughbred Adoption Network is now owned and managed by SolvIT LLC. While we are a for-profit consulting firm, our main interest in this effort is to help facilitate adoption of ex-racehorses.
If you are having trouble with this website; or you have some great ideas for making it better, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thoroughbred Adoption Network (TAN) is not affiliated with any specific rescue organization.
